8-29 game Review: Challenging Mix of Opponents

2025 Army Football ScheduleFeatures Challenging Mix of Opponents
By John ChuhranCaMMVets Media
While football insiders always focus on whoever is the next opponent, some enthusiasts are already looking to week two when Army travels all the way to Manhattan.
No, not the Manhattan just down the Hudson River from West Point. This Manhattan is in Kansas, the home of Kansas State, ranked 17th in preseason FBS polls, but a 24-21 loser to 22nd ranked Iowa State last Saturday in Ireland (yes, the one associated with St. Patrick). The see-saw affair was knotted with just 14:09 minutes to play when Iowa State scored twice in a row, leaving Kansas State only enough time for one retaliatory score.
The Wildcats gained 70 yards more than Iowa State, which maintained possession for almost 8 minutes more and still scored 3 points more than Kansas St. With a week to recover from jet lag, heal their wounds and analyze what went wrong, the Wildcats face unranked North Dakota this week. Kansas State is expected to be ready and highly motivated for the September 6 game (7 PM start on ESPN); the competition with the Wildcats will be Army’s first battle with a Big 12 opponent since the Black Knights visited Oklahoma in 2018. On paper, this game features the most talented opponent on the Army schedule, but the loss to Iowa St. may indicate that Kansas State is not quite as formidable as the pundits thought.
After an off week, The Black Knights host North Texas in their first AAC contest of the year, a 12 noon start on the CBS SN. In 2024, the cadets traveled to Denton, Texas and came away with a hard-fought 13-3 victory. Army will have only five days to recover from the trip to the Lone Star State; its fourth game is set for Thursday, Sept. 25 at East Carolina with a 7:30 PM kickoff on ESPN.
The Black Knights know they will be playing UAB at Birmingham, AL on Oct. 4, but they don’t know when since ESPN is waiting to see the competitiveness of all matchups before determining its broadcast schedule. Game six sees Army return to Michie Stadium on Sat., Oct. 11 to face Charlotte (the only AAC opponent that Army did not play against in 2024) for a noon start on CBS SN.

On Sat., Oct. 18, the Black Knights travel to New Orleans to face Tulane (which Army defeated 35-14 in the AAC title game at Michie Stadium last December); game time and network have not yet been announced. Army heads to Colorado Springs, CO on Sat., Nov. 1 to play Air Force (rebuilding after a difficult 2024 season) for the second game of the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy competition (after Air Force-Navy on Oct. 4). The noon kickoff will mark Army’s first appearance of the year on terrestrial TV (CBS).
Army starts the first of back-to-back home games on Sat., Nov. 8 when the Temple Owls travel to West Point, and, after an off week, they end it on Sat., Nov. 22 against Tulsa; both games are noon starts on CBS SN.
The regular season ends with a road game at the University of Texas San Antonio on Sat., Nov. 28 (kickoff time and network to be announced).
Army has a chance to have one additional home game. The two teams with the best regular-season records in the American Athletic Conference will determine the AAC Champion on Dec. 5 at the site of the team with the best record (performance against common opponents to settle ties). Game time is set for 8 PM on ABC TV.
The greatest rivalry in sports – 126th Army-Navy Game – will be held in Baltimore, MD on Sat., Dec. 12 with a 3 PM start on CBS TV. Army will be looking to avenge its most painful loss of 2024 – a 31-13 Navy triumph which the Midshipmen dominated throughout.
