2-23-2025
Saturday night is last home game for Brian Riley, after 21 years as head hockey coach at United States Military Academy at West Point, and 74 consecutive seasons of a Riley family member coaching team.
1951 when Brian's Dad was named head coach by legendary Red Blaik. Jack Riley went on to 546 wins coaching Army for 36 years, and in 1960 coached the US Olympic team to a Gold Medal.
His Brother Rob took over as head coach in 1986 and achieved 257 wins.
Brian Riley became the Army head coach in 2004, went on to earn four Atlantic Hockey America Coach of the Year honors, and as of tonight has 255 career wins. He announced his retirement this past summer at end of this season.
Yes he would very much like to catch his brother's career Win total, which could happen during playoffs.
Glad to have this early season opportunity to chat with Coach Riley, we discuss the season, this year's key players, changes in college athletics from NIL and Transfer Portal, Legacy of 74 years of Riley Coaching Legacy at West Point, and a few career highlights.
Coach Riley has many friends in and beyond college hockey world. We appreciate his graciousness talking with us after many games Win or Lose.
As a Providence College grad, appreciate Brian efforts on NCAA Hockey Committee serving as Team Representative when Friar Hockey team won the 2015 National Championship in Boston.
