Big Week Army Lacrosse
By Seth Mendelson/CaMMVets Media 3-30-2025
It was quite a week for the Army men’s and women’s lacrosse programs.
Last Wednesday, the Black Knights knocked off No. 5-ranked Stanford 12-9 at Michie Stadium, with junior Allison Reilly scoring six goals and adding two assists. Classmate Brigid Duffy had two goals and four assists for Army.
On Saturday, the Black Knights kept going, knocking off host Lafayette, 21-2. Duffy scored seven goals and had one assist for Army, while Reilly had five goals and four assists. Lily Valentini had three goals for Army, which improved its record to 8-2 on the season and is now ranked 22nd in the nation.
“I’m beyond proud of our teams focus and determination,” said Army women’s coach Michelle Tumulo. “We talk about doing the little things well that lead to big moments and wins. We did exactly that on Wednesday and Saturday. We were excited for the challenge of a top five team and the opportunity to show everyone that we can play and beat the best.
The victory over Stanford is making the college lacrosse world notice the Army team. “It’s a historic win for our program but something that is discussed in our locker room constantly,” Tumulo said. “We practice and prepare every day to win games like this. Our staff knew we had the 33 players to do it, I’m glad they believed it too.
“Yes, great players are continuing to play great. I’m happy that they are constantly finding a rhythm. So many of our players are stepping up and playing extremely well.”
The men’s team also had a big week, holding off No. 5 North Carolina, 13-12, on Saturday at Michie Stadium in front of about 5,000 fans. The win came despite the Tar Heels dominating the faceoff X, winning nearly 75 percent of the faceoffs against Army and gaining possession of 36 ground balls to just 29 for the Black Knights.
Senior Jackson Eicher was again Army’s scoring machine, scoring six times on just 12 shots to pace the Black Knights. Freshman Hill Plunkett scored two goals and had one assist for Army, while his older brother, junior Evan Plunkett, had one goal and five assists for the Black Knights.
Army is now 8-1 and ranked sixth in the national polls.
The women’s team visits American (5-7) on Saturday, while the men’s team travels to Colgate (6-4) on Saturday.
